Split sheet template

By the Slappcard teamFacts last checked

A split sheet template is a page where the people who made a song write down each person's name and share.

We make Slappcards, printed download cards. This split sheet is free and works whether or not you ever buy one.

Make a split sheet

Add the title, the date and each person. Composition shares have to add to 100% before the PDF downloads. The master column is optional. The file is built in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

The split sheet opens here.

What the columns mean

The labels below are the words on the form. They are not a society's categories, and this page does not check them against any register.

Composition is the share of the songwriting each person is writing down. Every person needs a number, and the column has to add to 100%. A share can use two decimal places. That addition is our arithmetic: we turn each number into hundredths of a percent. 33.33 three times is 99.99, so it does not pass. 33.33 twice plus 33.34 does, because those hundredths add to 10000.

Master is the share of the recording. Leave every master box empty if you are not writing that down. If anyone fills one in, every person needs a number and that column has to add to 100% too.

PRO is the collecting society a person belongs to, if they have one. IPI and CAE are numbers some societies give a writer. Type them if you have them. This page does not check the number, and it does not say what any society requires.

The PDF leaves a signature line and a date line for each person. Signing is between the people named. The file does not make a signature binding.

The PDF uses a plain font. Letters outside the Latin alphabet are left out of the file. The form on this page still shows them, so check the PDF before you send it.

Not legal advice

This is not legal advice. The PDF is a record of what you typed. It does not file the song, and it is not a contract by itself.

Questions

What is a music split sheet?

A split sheet is a page the people who made a song fill in. It records a legal name, a role and a share for each person, and it leaves a line to sign. This one is that page. It is a record of what you typed.

It does not register the song, and it does not send anything to a distributor or a collecting society.

Do songwriter splits have to add to 100%?

On this page, yes. The composition column has to add to 100% or the PDF will not download. The master column is optional. Leave it blank, or fill every row so it adds to 100% as well. We add the numbers ourselves, in hundredths of a percent.

This is the form's own check. It is not a rule copied from a collecting society.

What do the PRO and IPI fields mean?

PRO is where you type the collecting society a person belongs to, if they have one. IPI and CAE are optional numbers some societies issue. Type yours if you have it. This page does not look the number up, and it makes no claim about what a society accepts.

Ask your society what it wants on a split sheet before you rely on this PDF.

Does my split sheet leave my computer?

No. The form stays in this tab, and the PDF is built here. Nothing is uploaded, and no account is needed. Close the tab and what you typed is gone. Save the PDF to your own computer if you want to keep it.

Can I send this PDF to my distributor?

You can save it and send it yourself. This page does not know what a distributor or a society will accept. Ask them before you rely on the file. Check the PDF too: a plain font drops letters outside the Latin alphabet.

Put the song on a card

A split sheet stays with the writers. A Slappcard is a printed card with a QR code that opens a private page with your music, for a fan to take home. Packs of 100 to 1,000 cards start at $120.00. Free shipping to the US and Canada.
