Album cover resizer

By the Slappcard teamFacts last checked

An album cover resizer crops a picture to a square and saves it as a JPG at a size a streaming page asks for.

We make Slappcards, printed download cards. This resizer is free and works whether or not you ever buy one.

Resize a cover

Resize album art here, including a 3000 px square when you choose that size, and convert cover art to JPG. The picture stays in this browser. Nothing is uploaded.

A picture that is not square keeps the centre square. The rest is left out of the file. Move the artwork in your own editor first if the important part is not in the centre.

The cover resizer opens here.

What the sizes mean

3000 px is the streaming master this guide already uses. It is one of the sizes in the list, not a rule that every store shares. The album cover size guide has each store's own range.

The download is a JPEG in sRGB. A JPEG has no transparency, so any clear area turns white. It is a lossy file, which is why a store that asks for a lossless PNG may want a different export.

A larger file adds no detail

Making the square larger than the picture adds no detail. The extra pixels are a stretch of the ones already there. The file can still be saved at the size you picked.

Questions

How do I resize album art to a square?

Pick a size from the list. The list is the minimum each streaming page publishes, plus the 3000 px master this site uses. The tool crops the centre square and writes a JPG at that side length. Your file is not uploaded.

The album cover size guide is where each number is sourced. This page does not add a size the guide does not list.

Can I convert cover art to JPG?

Yes. Whatever picture this page can open, the download is a JPEG. PNG, WebP and GIF are read in the browser and written out as JPG. Clear areas become white, because a JPEG cannot store transparency.

Will a larger size make a small cover sharper?

No. A larger file has more pixels, and those pixels are filled by stretching the ones you already have. It adds no detail. Spotify's cover art page says not to upscale, and Apple's asset guide says not to increase the size of a smaller image. You can still download the larger file if you choose to.

Does my cover leave my computer?

No. The file is read in this tab, drawn on a canvas and saved from there. Nothing is uploaded, and no account is needed. Close the tab and the picture is gone. The JPG is saved to your own computer.

Can I put this JPG on a download card?

The JPG is a square file for a store or a layout. It is not a printable card. A Slappcard is a printed card that uses your cover and a QR code opening a private page. Design that card when the cover is the one you want on it.
